William Franklin Harris went through a lot of trials and hardships in his time and so did his brothers. Frank was born at Pulaski County Virginia on February 6th 1840. Pulaski County Virginia was formed from Montgomery County Virginia and Wythe County Virginia on 1839. The first court in Pulaski County Virginia was held on May 9th 1839. Newbern Virginia was the county seat until 1895. The courthouse burned down and was rebuilt in the town of Pulaski Virginia making it the county seat, which it still is today. The Harris family lived somewhere near Newbern Virginia. When Wade Wilburn was a boy, his mother told him that her grandfather came from Newbern Virginia to Laurel Fork Virginia. The Harris family was all farmers and when they moved from Pulaski Virginia to Carroll County Virginia probably about 1854 they acquired quite a bit of land. Most of their land was located on Dugspur Road between Dugspur Virginia and Laurel Fork Virginia. Frank enlisted in Company F of the 54th Virginia Infantry Regiment on September 9th 1861. He was assigned as courier to regiment commander Colonel Robert Trigg and was later transferred to the Pioneer Corps. Colonel Trigg commended him after the battle of Chickamauga for capturing the state flag of the 22nd Michigan Infantry Regiment during the battle of Snodgrass Hill. Wade Wilburn has visited this exact sight at the battlefield and they say it looks much like it did then. It would be tough fighting there today. A battlefield marker telling of the movements of the troops on that day marks the jumping off point of the 54th in this battle. The 54th saw some of the hardest and meanest fighting of the war. They were soundly beaten at Bentonville, North Carolina on March 19th 1865. The Regiment lost its battle flag to the 14th Michigan Regiment in this battle. The flag was returned to the Commonwealth of Virginia in ceremonies at Lansing Michigan on September 20th 1941. It was placed in the Confederate Memorial Institute by then Governor James H. Price. Frank married Narcissa Jane Bolt also known as Cis on September of 1865 only a few months after the Civil War ended. Narcissa is the child of William H. C. Bolt a soldier who at the age of forty-four was killed in the Battle of Saltville on October 1864. Frank and Cis had nine children, seven boys and two girls.
The 45th Virginia Infantry Regiment roster lists as follows BOLT, WILLIAM H. C.: Sgt. in Co. I. Age 40 in 1860 Carroll County Virginia census, enlisted, 5/29/61 at Wytheville Virginia. Elected Captain 6/27/61. Sick 11/61. No further record, Transferred to the reserves. Killed in action Saltville, 10/2/64.

Kate Harris Clark's child, Reba Conner says that Annie Laurie Harris is buried at Wythe County Virginia at Barren Springs near Boone Furnace.

Mrs. Dora Jane Harris, 70, lifelong resident of Coopers, died at her home Tuesday Mrs. Harris was born at Coopers on December 21, 1878, a child of the late George and Sarah Bell. Her husband, Elbert Lee Harris, preceded her in death six years ago. Surviving are thirteen children: J. M., J. E., J. F. Harris and Mrs. Irvin Butt all of Coopers. E. L. Harris, Bramwell, S. J. Harris, Flemingsburg, Ky., W. I. Harris, Oakhill, George Harris, Roanoke, Mrs. Charles Carter and Mrs. J. K. Robinett, Pocahontas, Va., Mrs. Ray Moore, Spanishburg, Mrs. Paul Fleming, Warren, Ohio, Mrs. Lyndell Mae Wilburn, Shawsville, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Flora Corner and Mrs. Ruby Henderson, both of Coopers, Mrs. Robert Creasy, Bramwell; and a brother, A. I. Bell of Coopers. Thirty-seven grandchildren also survive. Funeral rites will be conducted from the residence at Coopers Thursday at 2:30 p. m. by the Rev. Mr. Steyer, pastor of the Coopers Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Harrison, pastor of the Bramwell Pilgrim Holiness Church. Interment will be in the Bell Cemetery at Coopers. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters will be flower bearers. The body will be removed from the Pocahontas Union Funeral Home to the residence this afternoon at 3 o'clock. He was a resident of Coopers all of his life. He was a retired employee of N & W Railway and a member of the Bramwell Masonic Lodge No. 45. He was also a veteran of World War 1. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Waldron Harris; one step-child, Bobby Lee Thompson of Kissimmee, Fla.; four sisters, Dorothy Carter of Pocahontas, Va., Lyndell Mae Wilburn of Radford, Va., Edith Butt of Coopers and Lois Fleming of California; two brothers, Elbert Lee Harris, Jr. of Warren, Ohio and George Benjamin Harris of Lynchburg, Va., and four grandchildren. ALIFF, Ward Insley, 76 of Roanoke, died Thursday, May 18, 2000. He severed his country as a navigator in the United States Navy. He retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad with 40 years of service and was one of the few remaining steam locomotive engineers, operating the 611 on its last run. Ward was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Norma Wilburn Aliff; a child, Lisa Lynn Aliff; and grandson, Langley Hawkins; two sisters, Aline A. Wells of Norton and Margaret Basham of Roanoke; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a. m. I remember Tidge well when he got out of the Air Force he lived or visited a short while before he married. He would give me rides from school. I remember visiting his parents in West Virginia. They would show me his room. They lived in the mountains and had a farm. They told me that Marijuana grew wild up there. I liked Tidge and his family very much. He told me stories of his Air Force career when I attended the family reunions in Salem. He wanted me to visit him but I never did but I wanted to.

At the time of his death, he was a member of the Flemingsburg Town Council and was seeking the post of mayor for a second time. He also was general manager of Cheap Chevrolet and had worked with the company since 1949. A member of the Flemingsburg Masonic Lodge, he was born at Coopers, W. Va., near Bramwell, and was a child of the late Elbert Lee and Dora Jane Bell Harris. His wife, Mrs. Hazel Miller Harris, and two sons preceded him in death. Margaret finished the eleventh grade during the war when she was 18 she took a welding class and became a welder in the Maryland Dry-dock at Baltimore Maryland where she married and divorced Troy Brock a noted adulterer that was annulled after two weeks due to his an adultery. Margaret seen George Harris as he visited a hospital ship anchored there while he was on leave from the Navy of the South Pacific in a construction battalion they both are from Coopers West Virginia. Margaret then married George Benjamin Harris on August 8th 1946 at Bluefield West Virginia in the ministers house they met on a blind date and lived in Bluefield West Virginia and in Roanoke Virginia and in Lynchburg Virginia and finally in Campbell County Virginia.
George Benjamin Harris, 77 of Concord, died Wednesday, Aug.18, 1999 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret Hill Harris. born on Coopers, W. Va., April 20,1922, he was a child the late Elbert L and Dora Bell Harris. Mr. Harris was retired from Griffin Pipe Products and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, four sons, Jesse, survive him. Harris, Titusville, Fla., Harry J. Harris, Paul D. Harris and George Bernard Harris all of Lynchburg; two sisters, Lois Fleming of Alhambra, Calif. and Edith Butt of Coopers W. Va., two granddaughters and three grandsons. The Rev. Michael Pope will hold a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery by American Legion Post 16. Margaret Hill Harris, 80, of Concord, died Friday, March 5, 2004, in Rocky Mount.born Feb. 21, 1924, in Laurel Bloomery, Tenn., she was a child of Forney Byron Hill and Margaret Josephine Dunn Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Benjamin Harris; three sisters, Elzora Hill, Mary H. Able and Ora H. Maxey; and a brother, Mack Hill.She retired as a cook at E.C. Glass High School and was a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church.Surviving are four sons, Jesse Lee Harris of Titusville, Fla., Harry James Harris and Paul Douglas Harris, both of Lynchburg, George Bernard Harris of Martinsville; one sister, Barbara Ann Gillespie of Lynchburg; one brother, Dwight E. Hill of Nashville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Union Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Cliff Jordan officiating. Anna Jane Minor was born on April 12th 1907 and lived with her child Elizabeth and her husband Paul since 1991 in Campbell County Virginia. Prior Anna lived with her child Barbara in Dayton Montgomery County Ohio from 1985 to 1991. Prior she lived with her child Elizabeth until she married Paul. Prior she lived with other people before then in Hillsboro Highland County Ohio. She died on Lynchburg Virginia from complications of a stroke she was 92. She married Alfonso Minor he had a sister Nelly Minor and she never married and a half brother Orville Payton.

LAURA OPAL HARRIS NEWMAN age 84 of Dickinson Texas died July 11, 1999. She was born on Laurel Fork Va., August 12, 1914 to the late Charley J. Harris and Mary Alice Moles Harris. Her children, Julia Warkins and her husband Carl of Dickinson, TX survive her. and her child Gene Rickman of Florida. Her sister Helen Harris of Tennessee also survives her. A memorial service was held July 17, 1999 in Dickinson TX.
